FACE AHEAD 2020's organizers are pleased to announce that AO President Robert McGuire, renowned spine surgeon, will be the keynote speaker, kicking off the second day on Saturday, March 28.
Robert McGuire has decades of experience as a clinician and educator leading fellow surgeons in support of the AO mission of promoting excellence in patient care and outcomes in the fields of trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.
His talk, "My Adventure Through the AO" will explore his journey as a surgeon and as a mentor. He will look at how the AO has offered him, throughout his career, opportunities to reach out and share experiences with colleagues in all fields, across the globe.
Robert's keynote speech will take you on a forty-year odyssey from residency to presidency of the AO Foundation. He will reflect on the importance of adhering to AO principles in patient management, knowledge generation, and the courage needed to change his practice in response to this data. Mentorship is a quintessential feature of the AO spirit, and Robert will explore how mentorship and diversity are central to the AO's future.
Robert McGuire is M. Beckett Howorth Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and President of the AO Foundation. He places great emphasis on educating residents and doctors who are early in their careers. His students recognize in him someone who is hands-on, passionate about teaching, and always ready to put in extra time. He also sees simulation as central to surgical education, particularly for younger generations.
