FACE AHEAD 2020 organizers are excited to announce yet another star keynote speaker: René Leemans, who has made significant contributions to cancer care and research in the field of head and neck oncology over the past decades. Leemans takes the big stage in Barcelona on Saturday March 28.
Leemans’ keynote will focus on placing the individual patient in the center of the treatment journey. In his inspirational talk titled "Progress through multidisciplinary cooperation", he will outline the journey toward more personalized treatments for head and neck cancer, particularly in the current era of changing epidemiology and treatments. As a surgeon/scientist, he will highlight the importance of translational cancer research to improve treatment of current and future patients.
Leemans leads the head and neck oncology program at Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC) and strongly believes that progress is best achieved through multidisciplinary cooperation. He is committed to improving the outlook for the head and neck oncological patient, both in terms of improved oncological outcome and survival.
Leemans is director of the Otolaryngology Residency Program and the Advanced Fellowship Program in Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology at Amsterdam UMC and he has authored or coauthored more than 400 papers and book chapters on head and neck oncology. He also leads the successful Make Sense Awareness Campaign.
